I got TAGGED!

OK, I really don't know what this means - but I'll take a lead from Decorina and post 7 things about myself:

1- I am a decendant of James Fenimore Cooper (author of Last of the Mohicans)

2- I am related to Quannah Parker (Comanche)

3- I won a sholarship to the Otis Art Istitute in LA - that I never used

4- I won a National Endowment for the Arts grant to illustrate a book on coastal ecology, that was never published, but I have great illustrations for.

5- My ex husband walked off into the wilderness with a backpack and has never been seen or heard from since.

6- People don't believe I am a 57 year old ex hippie chick! LOL! Good genes I guess!

7- I have been collecting McCoy pottery, salt n peppers, wall pockets, vintage furniture, arrowheads, native american baskets, vintage prints for over 30 years - and Decorina drove it all in a semi from Colorado to Florida for me!

and here is a link to my tagger - my oldest friend, Decorina herself!

McCoy Pottery

I have been collecting McCoy pottery for over 20 years. And Salt & Pepper shakers. And Wall Pockets. Fruit-shaped objects are a favorite. I started when I was given a tiny McCoy flowerpot that was my grandmothers - blue wash with dragonflies. When I lived in Grand Junction Colorado I used to hit the antique stores every weekend; but it doesn't seem to be a popular thing to do anymore - and things I collect are scarce. (Except for old books which I just acquired a couple of box fulls - which included many first editions.)

The two pots on the very right end of this shot are pretty rare lavendar butterfly, in unusual shapes.
I don't have great pictures online. I will try to scan in some better shots of my collections.

Gardening in Florida

I haven't been without a garden since I was 13. I had some pretty awesome ones in Colorado for 25 years. I am a master gardener in Colorado and Florida - but now I just do container gardening - because of this:

So everytime I try to grow veggies they pick them and spit out what they don't want. After TS Fay they ate an entire hanging plant in one morning - wonder if it killed the little fucker, since this particular plant is poisonous to cats and dogs. They even eat the hibiscus flowers and oranges! Here are some pics of my pitiful Florida gardening efforts:

Thank God!

We got a direct hit - so thankfully Fay was not a catagory 4 hurricane! We were out of power for 3 days - and it took 5 people 2 hours to clean up my yard.
I am so looking forward to WINTER! It is the best time of year in Florida!
